Interview Formats

One-on-One

  • This kind of interview involves one interviewer and one interviewee. Usually the interviewer will ask a series of questions and the applicant will have a chance to answer them. At the end of the interview, the applicant will usually be able to ask the interviewer questions about the job, environment, and daily responsibilities. For more information, refer to this page.

Committee

  • A committee interview usually has one applicant and several interviewers. In this interview, the applicant will answer questions that the committee members ask.
  • When answering questions, give eye contact to everyone in the room, but focus more on the person asking the questions.
  • Committee interviews may seem intimidating, but it is very similar to a one-on-one interview.

Group

  • A group interview may have one or more interviewers with several applicants in the same room. The question and answer sessions take place with all of the applicants together.
  • This is challenging because one can hear the other applicants' answers, which may affect answers on the spot in order to sound different or unique.
  • Applicants may also have the opportunity to work together in team activities to show the interviewers how applicants can work in a group, demonstrate leadership, and communicate.
  • Tip: Be friendly, give the best answers possible and try to be unique from the group with your answers. Listen to other applicants' answers so you can make your answer as unique as possible. In group activities, take an active role, communicate your thoughts and be a team player.
