• Library Moves to BruinCard System for Self-Service Copying and Printing

  The UCLA Library has replaced the previous system used for self-service copying and printing with the UCLA BruinCard system.  UCLA students, faculty, and staff will now use their BruinCards to pay for these services, and all other library visitors can purchase a visitor BruinCard that also enables them to make purchases at other campus locations and at more than twenty businesses in Westwood.

• Library Web Services Open House Hours

  Library Web Services would like to chat with library staff and end users in-person. We would like to understand your experience with the Library Web site and listen to your suggestions for new or improved web services. 

  On every Thursday, starting in December 2007, LWS will host its open house hour from 3 p.m. -4:30 p.m. All staff and users are welcome to drop by.  

  We are located in 11723 Young Research Library (We are on first floor. Walk to the right of the lobby. The room is right across the elevators. We are looking forward to seeing you.

• CDLAlert: English interface to CNKI will be unavailable Dec 24 - Jan 1

  This just in from East View:

  We would like to inform you about a scheduled service upgrade of the CNKI platform, to version KNS5.2. This release will include several new improvements, many of which were specifically requested by users.

  To accommodate the upgrade, the English-language interface of CNKI will be temporarily unavailable from Dec. 24, 2007 - January 1, 2008.

  We regret any inconvenience this may cause. The Chinese interface, however, will be available without interruption throughout, and is also accessed via the URL http://china.eastview.com.

• Library Presence in Facebook

  The Library recently launched the UCLA Library Catalog in the social-networking site Facebook. This application offers convenience for the more than 50,000 UCLA Facebook members who can now search our holdings and ask us questions directly in Facebook.  

  The experience that we gained from developing this application will also enable us to offer the same service in other similar environments, such as course management systems, with some alterations.  

  You can install the application from the following URL; note that a Facebook account is required to download:http://apps.facebook.com/uclacatalog/All Facebook users can also browse or search the application by its name, UCLA Library Catalog. 

  Please feel free to try this service and provide your feedback. and your ideas of new services that can be offered in Facebook are also welcomed.

• Melvyl Catalog unavailable early Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008

  The Melvyl Catalog will be taken down on Sunday, February 10, 2008 between 12:01 AM through 10 AM for system maintenance, and will be unavailable intermittently.   During this period, some of the Shared Cataloging records in local campus catalogs will also be unavailable
