“The Sound of Music” (Soundtrack): Careers in the Music Industry
What do speakers, mixer boards, and street teams have in common with Plain White T’s, Fall Out Boy and Avenged Sevenfold? Music!
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be part of creating music, promoting music and artists, or working with those who do? Attend this session to learn about career options in the music industry. Our experts have worked in all areas of the business and will share tips on how the industry works and how to get your foot in the door.
Panelists Include:
Philip
Golden, Stereotype Records, UCLA Alumnus
If it hadn't
been for picking up the Clash's first album in high school, Philip Golden
could have been a productive member of society by now (maybe a lawyer or
something). Since that time, he has spent his years playing in innumerable
bands, owning and running a recording studio, working as a mastering engineer,
and co-owning/running a web-based record label. He has a day job to feed the
kids, also tangentially connected to the music world.
Charles Goodan
Was music always in the life of Charles Goodan? It seems so. If you look
at the collection of vintage keyboards and guitars, vintage outboard, Pro-
tools HD, and his isolated recording booth, you can see that Charles has
spent most of his waking hours practicing his instruments, perfecting his
studio, and honing his musical talents. He can play just about any instrument.
When you listen to his compositions in Fight Club, Blow, UC: Undercover,
Push Nevada, Blue Haven, etc., you'll hear his playing; whether it is piano,
guitar, lap steel, dobro, banjo, ukelele, or his trusty French horn. He has
also written music for Showtime, The Four Seasons Hotel, Radio Music Awards,
Gap, and Timex.
Charles Goodan is a Grammy Award winning producer based in Los Angeles. He majored in Music, Science, Technology at Stanford and came to LA in 1996 to become staff producer for the Dust Brothers (Mike Simpson and John King.) In 2000 he started his own production company, Devil's Food.
Some of Charles' music awards include:
Grammy Award - Album
of the Year - Santana
Brit Award Nomination - Fight Club
Billboard Number 1 - Hanson
Grammy Award Nomination - Rolling Stones
Grammy Award Nomination - Dust Brothers
He has extensive production experience that includes Santana, Beck, Linkin Park, Rolling Stones, Smashmouth, Coolio, and Leif Garrett. His remix projects include Morphine, No Doubt, Len, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Wiseguys, Money Mark, and Robert Smith.
Look for Charles' upcoming production work on albums by Scissors for Lefty and DJ Swamp.
DJ Swamp album "Vinyl Disciple" is due out in April on Bulletproof Records.
Scissors for Lefty album "Underhanded Romance" is due out
June 12 on Eenie Meenie Records.
Lawrence
Lebo, Independent Recording Artist, On The Air Records,

vocals extraordinaire! Her debut EP "Don't Call Her Larry, Vol. 1" garnered
rave international reviews, college airplay, live performances on such stations
as KCRW and KPCC, and live performances sharing the bill with such artists
as Bobby Bradford. The EP's
success got the attention of National Public Radio who featured Ms. Lebo
on the "Weekend Edition" show hosted by Liane Hansen.
With her second release, "Don't Call Her Larry, Vol. 2," Ms. Lebo showcases her songwriting, arranging, and vocal talents.
